SB 203 -- METROPOLITAN PARK AND RECREATION SYSTEM SPONSOR: Scott (O'Toole) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Miscellaneous Bills and Resolutions by a vote of 9 to 0. This bill exempts food from the sales tax imposed by the metropolitan park and recreation district. The exemption uses the same definition for food as does the section which reduces the state sales tax on food (Section 144.025, RSMo). The exemption will go into effect on January 1, 2002. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that when this statute originally passed, the intent was to exempt food from this sales tax for the metropolitan park and recreation district. Testifying for the bill were Senator Scott; and St. Louis 2004. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
